The world has found it's messiah

I know it's been a while since I posted an actual Netadmin related post, but I needed to put this up.  For a man who has said nothing about what he will actually do when he is crowned and has only talked the mantra "change", I find the current electorate disturbing to say the least.  I think the best comment I've seen on the net regarding this video is, "Senator, I serve Jesus. I know Jesus. Jesus is a friend of mine.  Senator, you're no Jesus".

Thanks to ObamaMessiah for the vid

Backup problems

We just added another Domino server to the mix and the additional 40 GB of data broke the back of our Tape backup scheme.  We were running a standard GFS backup scheme but with the amount of data now required daily it just became to overwhelming.  I'm going to have to look into either a new tape drive with multiple heads or change the scheme altogether.  Our Irvine office has an identical setup (tape drive & servers) and my boss suggested splitting the jobs over two locations.  My only problem with this is then our offsite storage will be split into two places.  I suggested implementing transaction logging, so I wouldn't have to backup the entire database every night but that was shot down for multiple reasons.  I'm not sure where I'm going to go with this.

Domain Name registration

So I was going to go legit and register portcullischain.com after realizing I shouldn't be such a cheap bastard and just fork over the $20. I was going through the process and realized I needed to add private registration to protect anonymity. I clicked back after I was already in the check-out process and firefox crashed. After cursing o' so ever briefly, I relaunched my browser and tried it again. This time GoDaddy told me that portcullischain.com was already taken and was not available. I'm assuming they placed a hold on the name, but when I WHOIS the name it says it expires in March of '09. You try and do the right thing and look what happens to you.
